How to Make a Balloon Popper

We've all been awed by a magic show at some point in our lives. There are many secret devices used by the magician, and one is a balloon popper. Probably the easiest to make of all the trick gadgetry, a magician might need to have a balloon popper that is mounted on a long stick, or a handheld one for sleight of hand. If you're not a magician, balloon poppers are also helpful with several types of balloon games in carnival booths. Here's how to make your own balloon popper.

Instructions

    • 1

Bend the pipe cleaner around your ring finger once, bending the ends together and making a snug fit. Trim off the excess.

    • 2

Glue the flat back of the thumbtack onto the outer edge of the pipe cleaner. Allow to dry. If using a plastic or metal ring, glue the thumbtack onto the outer edge of the ring.

    • 3

Slip ring on finger, with the thumbtack facing inside the palm area. You now have a secret balloon popping device.

    • 4

Glue a thumbtack onto the end of your wooden stick. Allow to dry. You now have a longer balloon popping device. Paint the stick to make it magical or festive.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use white glue if necessary, but the hold won't be as reliable. You might lose your thumbtack!
