Step 1
Cancel the hosting account you wish to leave. If the website is being forwarded to another domain, un-forward that command by going on your online domain-managing web page or contact the company that manages your domain.
-
Step 2
Sign up for web hosting. There are many companies that offer web hosting. When choosing a hosting package, compare space and transfer limits and any other features you may need, such as email options. When setting up the web hosting, you may be required to add the domain to the hosting account.
-
Step 3
Set up a username and password for your hosting account. When setting up your hosting account, you will be required to choose a user name and password. Write these down so you will remember them when uploading your website to the new location.
-
Step 4
Ask the website hosting company for the Dedicating Hosting IP number of the web hosting account you have set up. This will typically contain 11 numbers in the following format: 00.000.000.000. If your hosting company allows you to manage your hosting account online, log into your account and look for this number.
-
Step 5
Contact the company that manages your domain name or log into your domain name online account. Look for the option to change the Dedicating Hosting IP number. If your domain is hosted through Godaddy, the link would be: Total DNS Control and MX Records. Click on that link.
-
Step 6
Change the Dedicating Hosting IP number in the window that pops up. This will require replacing the Dedicating Hosting IP with the number you located in step 4.
-
Step 7
Upload your website as you did when you originally uploaded it. It may take 24 hours for the Dedicating Hosting IP change to take place. You may want to wait before uploading. Once the new Dedicating Hosting IP is associated with your domain name, the upload will direct it to that address, at the new server.
