How to Make & Send Ringtones for a Sprint RAZR

The Sprint RAZR is a very versatile mobile device, and can easily be personalized to your preferences. One of the most popular RAZR features is the ability to make and transfer ringtones, which can be done in just a few minutes; here's how.

Instructions

  1. Make a Ringtone

    • 1

Download MP3 file trimming software such as mpTrim (see Resources).

    • 2

Load the MP3 music file into the mpTrim program. Click on the "Open" tab at the top of the mpTrim program. When the Windows Explorer dialog window loads, locate and highlight the MP3 music file of your choice. Click on the "Open" tab to load the music file into the program.

    • 3

Cut the MP3 music file down to a ringtone. Using the arrows and timer located in the direct center of the program, trim the file down to ringtone size. Locate the portion of the song you desire to use and trim the file down accordingly. Use the "Play" arrow to preview the file.

    • 4

Save your finished product. Click on the "Save As" option. Change the file name or wording of your new ringtone file to avoid overriding and losing the original MP3 file. Click "Save As" to finalize the change.

    • 5

Click on the Wavepad Editor link listed in Resources below. Choose to run the program rather than save it to your hard drive. When the program opens, click on the "File" tab at the top of the program's screen, and select "Open" in the File drop-down menu. Locate and highlight the ringtone MP3 file you recently trimmed. Click "Open" to load the MP3 file into the Wavepad Editor.

    • 6

Convert the file. Click on the "File" tab once again and select the "Save As" option. When the Windows Explorer dialog window opens, click on the drop-down menu tab and select the "AAC" file format. Save the file under this file extension by clicking on the "Save As" option.

    Send the Ringtone

    • 7

Go to the Sprint Focus Uploader website (see Resources).

    • 8

Scroll down to the Focus Uploader at the bottom of the screen. Click on the "Browse" tab and locate your converted ringtone file. Enter a title for your ringtone file and type your 10-digit cell phone number into the blank data forms provided. Click "Upload and Send" to transfer the ringtone file to your Sprint RAZR cell phone.

    • 9

Open the SMS text message that will come to your Sprint RAZR phone from the online uploader. The text message will display a download link for you to download the ringtone. Click on the download link that will be displayed in the text message and your phone will redirect to your mobile Internet. Bypass the security setting to download and save the ringtone file. It will automatically save to your cell phone.

Tips & Warnings

  • Ringtones should be no longer than 25 seconds to save space in the RAZR's memory. Sprint cell phones only allow the playback of customized ringtone files formatted in MP4. You will need to convert the file before uploading it to your Sprint RAZR or the file will not playback properly.

  • Allow 30 minutes to an hour between ringtone transfers. You do not want to overload your RAZR's server. Do not alter any other modules within the program once you have edited the ringtone to your liking. All of the other modules will distort the sound of the final product.
