How To Treat Torn Tendons

Tendons are the fibrous tissue that connect muscles to bones. A torn tendon can limit mobility and cause intense pain. Most injuries are a result of strenuous exercise or over stretching the tendon. Treating torn tendons correctly is crucial to the healing process.

• Medication
• Brace

Instructions

1. Take an anti-inflammatory medicine such as ibuprofen to help ease the pain and reduce swelling. Take one pill every six hours until the tendon has healed.

2. Put a brace or elastic bandage on the injured tendon to reduce the amount of stress placed on it. The less stress that the tendon endures, the faster it will heal.

3. Apply an ice pack to the injured tendon for 15 to 20 minutes, at least once every two hours. Ice will help reduce the amount of swelling. Place a towel between the ice pack and your skin so the cold will not be too harsh.

4. Stretch the injured tendon very gently for five minutes every hour. This will help the tendon return to it's normal flexibility.
