How to Make Orb Fountains
An orb fountain is any fountain that incorporates a spherical structure in its workings. Most commonly, these small spheres or orbs float in a bowl, although some are hollow and allow water to run through their top and over their sides. The appearance of such a fountain is clean and modern due to the orb's geometric design. Although one can spend significant amounts of money to purchase an orb fountain, making one is quite easy. - 20-inch terracotta bowl for a reservoir
- 16-inch terracotta pot for fountain pillar
- 14-inch terracotta saucer
- 12-inch terracotta pot for fountain bowl
- Round fountain float
- Silicone caulk
- Caulking gun
- Sandpaper
- Oil-based polyurethane
- Brushes or sponges
- Electric drill
- 3/8-inch drill bit
- 3/8-inch vinyl tubing
- 3/8-inch fountain pump connector
- Fountain pump

Drill a 3/8-inch hole in the center of the terracotta saucer. Then drill an indentation in the lip of the 16-inch terracotta pot. You will place the cord of your fountain pump in this lip. Sand the rough edges of all terracotta surfaces.

Seal the interior and exterior of all terracotta pots with the oil-based polyurethane.

Glue the saucer upright to the bottom of the overturned 16-inch pot using silicone caulk, taking care to line up the 3/8-inch hole in the saucer to the drain hole in the 16-inch pot.

Line up the upturned 12-inch terracotta pot to the upturned saucer and glue in place using the silicone caulk.

Glue the 3/8-inch vinyl hose into the 3/8-inch opening of the glued pots and saucer using the silicone caulk. Attach the fountain pump to the other end of the 3/8-inch tubing using a connector. Place the cord of the pump in the indentation in the lip of the 16-inch pot.

Place entire fountain apparatus in the bottom of the 20-inch bowl. Fill with water.

Place the round pond float in the bowl of the 12-inch terracotta pot. This will be the orb in your orb fountain. The fountain is now ready to be plugged in and run.

Tips & Warnings
You can choose to paint your fountain using acrylic paints and paint sealer. Paint the fountain, seal it and let it dry before you fill it with water.
Your terracotta pottery must be high-fired. If it is not, it may disintegrate when exposed to water.
