Cleaning up spills takes time and patience, especially when something spills on a Tempur-Pedic mattress. The special foam soaks up moisture like a sponge and can take several hours or days to dry completely. Using mild products like white vinegar and baking soda can help eliminate the stain and any odor left by the spill.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Baking soda, white vinegar, or enzymatic cleaner
  • Cold water
  • Spray bottle
  • Absorbent towels
  • Hand-held vacuum or vacuum hose attachment
  1. Step 1

Remove any cover on the mattress (some do not have one). Clean the cover according to the label instructions.

  2. Step 2

Using a dry towel, blot up as much of the spill as possible from the mattress surface.

  3. Step 3

Sprinkle baking soda on the spill. Allow it to absorb any additional moisture on the mattress surface. Then vacuum the area.

  4. Step 4

Dilute either vinegar or hydrogen peroxide with cold water, using a mix of equal parts vinegar or hydrogen peroxide and water. Place the solution in a spray bottle. If you are using an enzymatic cleaner, follow the instructions on the container.

  5. Step 5

Spray the spill area. How much you spray depends on how deeply the spill has penetrated the mattress. Don't pour the solution on the mattress.

  6. Step 6

Blot up any excess moisture and allow the mattress to air dry completely. Drying may take several hours.

  7. Step 7

Repeat these steps if any stain or odor remains.

Tips & Warnings
  • Invest in a waterproof pad or cover that will protect your mattress from spills. Enzymatic cleaners clean up organic spills like urine or vomit.
  • Never use chlorine or harsh stain remover products. Don't use vinegar or hydrogen peroxide at full strength.
