How to Install Golf Club Heads on a Shaft
Installing a club head onto a shaft can be an enjoyable experience or hobby. The process can take some time, but it is not a very hard procedure to follow. Learning to do this can be very useful for a golfer, as it allows her to be able to make changes to her clubs without having to spend a fortune at a golf repair shop.
Things You'll Need
- Golf head
- Steel golf shaft
- Ferrule
- Epoxy glue
- Coarse sandpaper
- Razor blade or utility knife (optional)
- Paper towels
Instructions

1
Clean any debris from the shaft tip and club hosel. This will help the epoxy form a strong bond between the two and allow the shaft to be easily inserted into the bottom of the hosel.
-
2
Sand the tip of the steel shaft to remove the shiny outer coating so that the epoxy will adhere better to the shaft. If using a graphite shaft, gently scrape the shiny outer coating off with a razor blade or utility knife.

-
3
Place the ferrule onto the shaft and mix the epoxy.
-
4
Dip the tip of the shaft into the epoxy.
-
5
Insert the tip of the shaft into the hosel. Push the shaft down to the bottom of the hosel while twisting the shaft to entirely coat the inside of the hosel. The excess epoxy should accumulate on the top of the club's hosel.
-
6
Push the ferrule into the excess epoxy to glue it in place, and wipe away the excess epoxy with a paper towel.
-
7
Let the epoxy dry by setting the club on its head and resting the shaft on a wall. Once the epoxy is dry, sand the ferrule so that it is even with the club head's hosel.

Tips & Warnings
Don't worry about putting too much epoxy on the shaft, because when it is inserted into the hosel the excess will be forced out the top of the hosel. Give the epoxy at least 24 hours to properly dry.
Be in a well-ventilated room when using epoxy.
