Step 1
Maximize your Internet connection speed. Torrent clients like Azereus require your Internet connection to be as fast as possible to achieve the best speeds. If you are using wireless, move closer to your access point and remove obstructions between your computer and the router. If you are on a local network, stop downloads on all other computers to make sure your computer is getting as much bandwidth as possible. Also stop any other downloads on your own computer.
-
Step 2
Shut down other BitTorrent clients. Running more than one BitTorrent client can cause conflicts and make Azureus run slower.
-
Step 3
Shut off firewalls. Firewall programs can sometimes block ports that torrent clients use to achieve faster speeds. Shutting off firewalls can increase speed.
-
Step 4
Choose healthy torrent files. The "health" of a torrent file means how many seeds and peers it has to download from. A file with many seeds is best, since it means there are a lot of people hosting it for download who have the entire file. A torrent with only a few seeds or peers will likely take a long time to download.
-
Step 5
Optimize your upload speed. Many torrent clients derive your maximum download speed from your maximum upload speed. If you set your upload speed too low, downloads will also become slow. Try changing your upload speed using the Options menu in Azureus, and wait a few minutes to see how it affects download speed. Keep tweaking the upload speed up or down until download speed hits its peak level.
