How to Enable the Printer Spooler Service

The print spooler service allows a computer to schedule print jobs. Without it, your printer won't work. When you send the command to print a document, you'll see that the print jobs are in queue by clicking on the printer icon in the task bar, but the printer won't print anything, which can be a headache until you figure out that the simplest way to fix the problem is to activate the print spooler service.

Instructions

    • 1

Right-click on "Computer" or "My Computer" and a drop-down menu will appear.

    • 2

      Click on "Manage."

    • 3

Click on "Services" and a list will open in the right pane.

    • 4

Scroll down the list until you find the item called "Print Spooler." Click on it to open the "Properties" screen.

    • 5

In the "Startup type" section, select "Automatic," and in the "Service status" section, click on "Start." Click on "Apply" and "OK" to enable the print spooler.
