Grilling season is here!
Grilling season is here!

Grilling season is here, and that means burgers will be sizzling! Everyone loves a good burger, but if the economy has you cooking hamburgers more often than
you'd like, here are some ideas to add some sizzling flavor interest.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • ground beef
  • seasonings
  • grill or stove
  1. Step 1

Change it up by making meatloaf burgers. Use your usual meatloaf recipe but shape the mixture into burgers instead of loaves. Serve with bun or as mini meat loaves.
Add some health benefits as well as interesting flavor to meatloaf burgers by mixing in dry oatmeal, chopped tomatoes, chopped eggs, even chopped fresh spinach. Instead of the usual ketchup and/or tomato based
sauce, add some flavor with a hot sauce, or a barbecue sauce. Use your imagination!

  2. Step 2

Take a different approach and give plain hamburgers a zing by adding a hamburger relish to top it off. The stores don't seem to sell bottled hamburger relish any more but you can make a good one, reminiscent of the Shoney's All American Burger.
Mix chili sauce (at our house we prefer Heinz Chili sauce, in the same aisle as mustard and ketchup) with sweet pickle relish. Approximately half and half is good. Mix them well and spread on the burgers when served. The hot-sweet taste of the chili sauce mixed with the sour-sweet taste of the relish makes for a delicious but simple burger.

  3. Step 3

Make your burger patties with a mix of sausage and hamburger. Use either mild or hot sausage, and vary the ratio according to taste.

  4. Step 4
Old Bay make a fantastic hamburger seasoning.

When you're making your patties, try adding a different seasoning: Old Bay. Yes, it's usually used for seafood, but mix it into your hamburger meat before you form the patties, and trust me you will find this a delicious, but simple addition.

Tips & Warnings
  • These ideas are great for the grill, but will also be good cooked inside on the stove or in the oven.
  • Always use a meat thermometer and cook your burgers to an internal temperature of 160 degrees.

on 11/8/2009 Good ideas. I like adding taco seasoning sometimes and I'll grill it with a chili pepper and Monterrey Jack on top with a tasty dollop of gaucamole.
