Things You'll Need:
- Determination
- Typed copy of your achievements
- Negotiation skills
- Extra time to put in at work.
-
Step 1
Have you been looked over by your employer for that raise or promotion more times than you can count? are you Mad? Angry? How about determined not to let it happen again? The first thing you need to do is type a page of your achievements and your ideas which have helped the company in some way. Even if it was a team project, list your part of the contribution.
-
Step 2
The next step takes a bit of courage to present your case to your boss. Your employer might not have realized how strong of an impact you have had on the company's success. The list may make him or her realize that you are invaluable. Present your employer with what you feel is a fair tribute to your success and the companies. if the company isn't doing to well at the moment take that into account.
-
Step 3
If your employer refuses a monetary raise, don't risk losing your job by bluffing on quitting. The economy is to bad right now to trust that your employer isn't willing to let you leave. If you can't reach an agreement monetary, then suggest a few extra perks. Such as a certain few days off every week or better parking. anything which would help you feel justified in not getting a raise temporarily. Update your list as your accomplishments increase and soon when the company is on better footing you can try again. The second time almost always goes better to the employee's favor. If the company truly doesn't value your work then you need to begin searching for a better job. Negotiating at the hiring table helps alot in the future as far as wages. Happy work week!
