check for Signs of Testicular Cancer

Testicular Cancer accounts for less than one percent of all cancer cases in the USA. Less than 500 men die from Testicular Cancer every year. Even though only 8000 men are diagnosed with this cancer every year, it is important that men know the signs. Early prevention is the best prevention.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A few minutes of time every month
  1. Step 1

Testicular cancer is the formation of malignant cancer cells in the testicle. The causes of this cancer are thought to be anything from undescended testes, inguinal hernia, to a certain form of kidney disease. Self examination is recommended.

  2. Step 2

The process of self examination is simple. With your hands and fingers, carefully feel around your testicles for any lumps or bumps. Most of the time these lumps are painless, but in some cases there may be some pain and soreness. Do this on a regular basis, say, for instance, once a month.

  3. Step 3

If you notice any changes in the size of your testicle or lumps, see your physician. Usually a physician will do the exam and then follow up with an ultrasound exam by a urologist. The ultrasound exam is the sure way to know if any discovered lump is cancer. Blood work can also be done to look for cancer markers.

  4. Step 4

The good news is that this type of cancer is quite treatable, with a survival rate of over 90 percent. Surgical removal of the testicle, chemotherapy, or radiation treatment are all forms of possible treatment options. As with most cancer, however, the earlier the detection, the better the prognosis. So men, please develop the habit of routine testicular self examination. Be healthy and happy.
