Step 1
Obviously, hunting where there is a good deer population is probably the most important. If there are few deer in your area, your chances of seeing any are less. Along with this, make sure that you place your stand in an optimum location such as near food sources, watering holes, heavily used trail intersections, etc.

Step 2
One thing that a lot of successful hunters do is plant food plots near the area that they plan on hunting. Food plots can range in size from a few feet to several acres. Common foods planted are soy beans, wheat, rye grass, Bio Logic, etc.

Step 3
In most states baiting deer is legal. In those cases lots of hunters feed the deer with corn, soy beans, or other grains. There are several different methods of feeding the deer. One of the most popular feeding methods is using a timed feeder that feeds in certain intervals. Pipe feeders are also popular, along with just pouring the grain in a trough or on the ground. All of these methods work just fine.

Step 4
Salt licks are a good way to get the deer to come to you. You can make salt licks by either putting out a salt block or by pouring salt on the ground or on an old stump. Over time, the rain dissolves the salt into the ground or stump and the deer keep coming back to paw and lick. This is something that hunters in the south have done for many years.

Step 5
Deer love peanut butter. A trick that is kind of new to me, but really works is nailing a peanut butter jar lid to a tree and cutting the bottom out of the plastic jar. With this set-up, you can replace the jar as often as you like. The smell of peanut butter drives the deer wild and will call them in. Those guys can lick the whole jar clean! These are just a few of the old tricks to make deer hunt you. I like to incorporate several of these things at one time and enhance my chances of bagging that ole deer. As simple as these techniques are, they have really been a major help to me and I hope they are for you too!
