Step 1
Stop your cravings for a cigarette before it becomes too intense by distracting yourself with something else. Do deep breathing exercises and realize that the craving will pass.
-
Step 2
Lessen your crankiness by taking a few deep breaths. Look outside at something you find enjoyable to watch. Go soak in a warm bath.
-
Step 3
Avoid insomnia when you quit smoking by walking several hours before bedtime. Unwind by reading or taking a warm bath. Drink a glass of warm milk and avoid caffeine after 2pm.
-
Step 4
Stop your appetite from taking a turn by buying snacks in advance. Chew on straws and buy sugar-free candy or gum. Get fresh vegetables and cut them up and eat them. Drink lots of water or low calorie drinks.
-
Step 5
Ease your inability to concentrate by taking a fast walk or run outdoors if possible. Take a break and just relax. Ease your schedule up for the first week you quit, when your lack of concentration is at its worst.
-
Step 6
Get more exercise by walking or going to a gym, make sure you sleep at night and take a nap to avoid fatigue.
-
Step 7
Add fiber to your diet, and fruits and raw vegetables to avoid constipation you may experience when quitting smoking.
