How to Cope With Nicotine Withdrawal When Quitting Smoking

When you quit smoking you go through many withdrawal symptoms and many people end up reverting back to smoking because they can't cope with the withdrawals. There are way to cope with the withdrawals of nicotine.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Stop your cravings for a cigarette before it becomes too intense by distracting yourself with something else. Do deep breathing exercises and realize that the craving will pass.

  2. Step 2

    Lessen your crankiness by taking a few deep breaths. Look outside at something you find enjoyable to watch. Go soak in a warm bath.

  3. Step 3

    Avoid insomnia when you quit smoking by walking several hours before bedtime. Unwind by reading or taking a warm bath. Drink a glass of warm milk and avoid caffeine after 2pm.

  4. Step 4

    Stop your appetite from taking a turn by buying snacks in advance. Chew on straws and buy sugar-free candy or gum. Get fresh vegetables and cut them up and eat them. Drink lots of water or low calorie drinks.

  5. Step 5

    Ease your inability to concentrate by taking a fast walk or run outdoors if possible. Take a break and just relax. Ease your schedule up for the first week you quit, when your lack of concentration is at its worst.

  6. Step 6

    Get more exercise by walking or going to a gym, make sure you sleep at night and take a nap to avoid fatigue.

  7. Step 7

    Add fiber to your diet, and fruits and raw vegetables to avoid constipation you may experience when quitting smoking.

on 5/29/2009 Good information. Another option is to buy one of those packs that slowly give you less and less Nicotine. Those are supposed to work well. 5*
