I've heard of a bead stitch called waffle weave, but have never seen it or instructions for it. I was playing around just trying to make something different and the texture of this design reminded me of a waffle, so I named it Waffle Weave.

I worked mine in size 11 and size 15 beads, but you can work it in size 8 and size 11 to make it easier to see and get acquainted with the stitch.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • seed beads in 2 different sizes. I used 11 and 15, but you can use 8 and 11.
  • beading needle
  • beading thread
  • scissors
  1. Step 1
    waffle weave step 1
    waffle weave step 1

Cut a comfortable length of beading thread and thread your needle. Tie on a stop bead and pick up 4 of your largest beads. Pass back through the first bead you picked up to form a circle. (It will actually form a diamond).

  2. Step 2

    waffle weave step 2

Pick up 1 small bead and 3 large beads. Pass down through the side bead in the previous diamond. Skip the small bead and pass through the first large bead added in this step.

  3. Step 3

Repeat step 2 until your work is as wide as you want it. I'm showing 4 diamonds for this illustration.

  4. Step 4
    waffle weave step 4
    waffle weave step 4

Now you're ready to turn. Pass the thread counter clockwise back through the second and third beads added in the previous step.

  5. Step 5
    waffle weave step 5
    waffle weave step 5

Pick up 3 large beads and pass clockwise back through the bead your thread is coming out of.

  6. Step 6
    waffle weave step 6
    waffle weave step 6

Pick up one small bead and pass through the top bead of the diamond in the previous row. Pick up 2 large beads and pass down through the side bead of the previous diamond, skip the small bead and pass through the next large bead.

  7. Step 7

Repeat steps 5 and 6 to the end of the row and turn your work. Repeat steps 5 through 7 until your project is the length you want it.
The illustration shows the thread being positioned for the turn. You can either work back and forth from the same side or turn your work each time, whichever is easier for you.
