Whether you are staying in a hotel for business or pleasure, a good night’s sleep is important. This goal is not always easy to achieve because some guests are rude and inconsiderate. It really isn’t that hard to be a good hotel guest.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Consideration for others
  1. Step 1

Keep your voice down when walking in the halls of the hotel after 9pm at night. Some people go to bed early, and it’s only considerate to be as quiet as possible so you do not wake them. If everyone does this, nobody will be woken up no matter what time they go to sleep.

  2. Step 2

Shut the hotel room door quietly. For some reason, hotel room doors are noisy when closed. Make sure to close the door slowly to minimize the noise in case others are sleeping.

  3. Step 3

Get ice for drinks before dark. One of the best ways to be a good hotel guest is by not using the ice machine after people have gone to sleep. There is nothing worse than being woken up to the sound of ice dropping.

  4. Step 4

Turn the television down. Most hotel guests watch television. You don’t, however, have to turn the volume up loud enough for people in the next room to hear. Keep the volume at a reasonable level to avoid problems with your neighbors.

  5. Step 5

Put the do not disturb card out if you want housekeeping to wait to clean your room. Placing the card in the door slot allows housekeeping to move right on by your room and get their duties completed in a timely manner. They will appreciate not having to knock and wait to see if you want the room cleaned.

  6. Step 6

Leave the do not change sheets place card on the beds. Be a good hotel guest and help the environment by using the same sheets if you are only staying for a day or two. Any way to save water is a good thing, so remember this one on your next stay.

  7. Step 7

Reuse towels. Bath towels are used after you are clean, so there is no reason not to use them more than once. This is another way to help the environment by saving the hotel energy costs on laundry.

  8. Step 8

Clean up after yourself. A good hotel guest will not leave trash lying all over the room after their departure. Yes, there are house cleaners to clean the rooms, but that’s no reason to be a slob and make a mess of the place. Be considerate of others. It’s just the right thing to do!
