In the summer months sunburn is a common ailment. Your best bet is to prevent a sunburn by wearing sunscreen at all times. But when you are unfortunate enough to get a sunburn, there are ways to make it less painful.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Cool down. Put a cool, wet cloth over the burned area. Repeat as often as necessary.

  2. Step 2

Soak in the tub. Take a bath in lukewarm to cool water.

  3. Step 3

Apply creams and gels. Aloe vera is a familiar balm for sunburn. You can put it on straight from the plant, in a lotion form or in gel form. If you get the gel you can keep it in the refrigerator for a cooling application.

  4. Step 4

Stay out of the sun. Keep the area covered if you are outdoors to avoid burning further.

  5. Step 5

Keep it clean. If you are peeling and see raw skin, cover it with gauze to avoid infection.

Tips & Warnings
  • Warning: If the burn is blistering badly or swelling, consult your doctor as it could become infected.
