Things You'll Need:
- Microwave
- Plastic microwaveable bowl
- Microwaveable colander that fits just inside your bowl
-
Step 1
Remove the packaging from your ground beef and place the beef in a microwave safe colander. Then, place the colander inside a microwave safe bowl. The colander should fit into the bowl so that it rests just above the bottom of the bowl. This will leave space for the fat to drain into the bowl below and keep it separate from the meat.
-
Step 2
Place it in your microwave and start by cooking the meat on high for 5 minutes. Microwave ovens vary, so cooking times will vary. Check the meat after 5 minutes. Break the meat up and stir it around a little, then place it back in for 5 more minutes on high.
-
Step 3
Keep checking, stirring, and cooking until the meat is browned and no longer pink, then remove from the microwave.
-
Step 4
Remove the colander from the fat drippings bowl and place on a paper towel or plate. That's it! Now, just add to whatever recipe you are making and eat!

on 6/3/2009 I would have never thought of using the microwave to brown beef. This is definitely something I'm going to try next time.

on 6/2/2009 I always like tips on decreasing the fat in recipes. I tend to rinse my ground beef to help float away the fat, but this microwave method sounds easier -- 5*
