The directions given assume that you are familiar with the basic game of Euchre

I grew up in the "thumb" of Michigan. I also went to a one room country school. Recesses at the country school (in the 70's) consisted of softball outside when the weather was nice and Euchre indoors when the weather was cold. When my family would get together at my grandparents farm, the card tables would get wiped down after the meal and the Euchre games would begin.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Use a double deck of cards and only the ace, king, queen, jack, ten and nine of all 4 suits.
  • 5 players.
  1. Step 1

Deal 8 cards to each player. There will be 3 left out.

  2. Step 2

Going clockwise from the dealer, each player will bid on how many "trick" they think they will be able to win. The highest bidder chooses the suit.

  3. Step 3

The winner of the bid now gets the 3 extra cards and then has to discard any 3 cards from the 11 now in their hand.

  4. Step 4

The high bidder plays their lowest trump card and the first person to play the Right Bower is now the partner of the high bidder.

  5. Step 5

Whoever takes the previous trick leads the next round and play continues until all cards are played.

  6. Step 6

Scoring: The players can choose how many points consist of a game (21, 50 etc.) depending upon how long they want to play. The high bidder and partner must take the number of tricks they bid; if they bid 5 but only make 4 tricks, they go back 5 points. If the high bidder and partner bid 5, but take 6 tricks, they still only can claim 5 points. The other 3 players each count their own tricks individually regardless of they were high bidder or their partner.

Tips & Warnings
  • The "bower" is the jack. If trump is hearts, then the jack of hearts is the "right bower" and the jack of diamonds is "left bower". If trump is spades, then the jack of spades is the "right bower" and the jack of clubs is "left bower" and so on.
