Have you ever been jealous of the person who could recite their favorite verse from the Bible? If you are not good at memorizing, this could be a daunting task. But with a little hard work, you too will be able to recite your favorite Bible Scriptures.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bible
  • 3 x 5 index cards
  • pen or pencil
  • a friend or family member
  1. Step 1

Pick a verse from the Bible you want to memorize. Write the name of the verse on the blank side of an index card (such as John 3:16 or Romans 12:2) and write the actual verse on the lined side of the card.

  2. Step 2

Read the name of the verse and then read the first 3-5 words of the verse.

  3. Step 3

Close your eyes and try to repeat what you just read (the verse name and first 3-5 words). Once you can repeat it without looking, recite it five times in a row without looking.

  4. Step 4

Read the name of the verse and the first 6-10 words from the verse (you will already have the first 3-5 words memorized). Close your eyes and try to repeat what you just read. Once you can repeat it without looking, recite it five times in a row without looking.

  5. Step 5

Keep adding more words to the verse and reciting it with your eyes closed until you have the entire Bible verse memorized. Then say it five times without looking at the verse.

  6. Step 6

Find a friend or family member, give them the card, and have them listen to you recite the verse and the verse name.

Tips & Warnings
  • Carry your index cards with you so you can practice your verses at work or school when you have downtime. The 3 x 5 card will fit into a pocket, backpack, or purse.
  • Review the Bible verses you already memorized so you don't forget them.
  • Don't get discouraged if you cannot memorize the Scripture very easily at first. Memorization is a skill, and every time you work on it, you will get better at memorizing.
