Step 1
Clean And Polish Your Pocket Watch Before You Wear ItFirst of all, a pocket watch is an attention getter when it is worn out in public. If people are going to take notice of your pocket watch, it is important that you take good care of your watch. Keep your pocket watch clean and polished. You can polish the watch case with any high quality carnauba car wax, using a very soft cloth. You can also use a jewelers polish cloth for everyday cleaning. Your pocket watch should be cleaned before it is stored away so that oil from your hands does not corrode or tarnish the finish. If you use your pocket watch often or if it is an antique, it is also a good idea to have it cleaned by a jeweler periodically, especially if you notice it not keeping good time. Follow these tips and your pocket watch will make a good impression everytime you use it in public!

Step 2
Don't Put Your Watch In A Pocket With Other ObjectsWhen you are wearing a pocket watch, it is normally left in a vest or pants pocket until you need it. Make sure that there is nothing in that pocket with your watch, or you run the risk of scratching the watch case. Don't put your pocket watch in with loose change, your cell phone, or any other hard surface object.

Step 3
Most of the time when you are wearing a pocket watch, the actual watch itself won't be visible. What will be visible is the watch chain or fob it will be attached to. So for your watch to look it's best, get a nice looking, high quality chain to attach it to. It is normally best to choose a watch chain that matches the color of your pocket watches' metal case. Choose a gold chain to match your gold watch, and a silver chain for a silver or pewter colored watch.
Other than the color of the chain, the style of the chain is strictly a matter of personal choice. There are many styles of watch chains available at jewelry stores and specialty web sites, and you can more than likely find one that reflects your own personal fashion sense. There are Fob Chains, Belt Clip Chains, Button Hole Chains, T-Bar Chains, and Vest Chains, just to name a few. Choose the one that expresses you the best! -
Step 4
You Can Carry Your Pocket Watch In The Fifth Pocket! How you physically attach your pocket watch to your clothing and where you wear it is a matter of choice. There are several ways that pocket watches have been worn down through history. Here are a few of them for you to choose from:
In Watch Pocket: The watch is attached to a chain that hooks to your belt or belt loop, and then the watch is carried in a regular front pocket of your pants or jeans. Many pants/jeans also have a small "fifth-pocket" in the front, just inside the main pocket. Most of us use this small pocket-within-a-pocket for loose change, but it's original purpose years ago was to be used as a watch pocket. It still serves that purpose well! Normally, quite a bit of chain length will be showing to others if you are not wearing clothing that will cover it.
In Vest Or Suit Pocket: Using a T-bar chain or a Button Hole chain, you can attach a pocket watch to your vest or suit, and then let your watch sit in an adjacent vest or jacket pocket. Only a short length of the chain will show on the outside, but it provides a nice accent to your clothing.
On A Fob: A pocket watch can also be attached on the end of a short watch fob, which is then clipped, hooked, or pinned to your clothing. The watch hangs from the end of the fob on the outside of your clothing and has a very unique and distinctive appearance. Watch fobs are usually short pieces of leather or metal that have a decorative piece on one end and a hook for the watch on the other end.
