Avoid Split Ends

Once the damage is done to your hair it is impossible to actually mend it. There are many products promising to mend them, but all they do is seal, smooth, and coat the split mend giving it a temporary fix. In order to repair damaged hair you have to avoid it all together.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Never brush your hair when it is wet. Wet hair stretches up to 25% and it is also more vulnerable. Rather you want to use a wide toothed comb to detangle it. Make sure you comb it gently. or even combing it.

  2. Step 2

Try not blow drying your hair on a daily basis. If you can try to allow it to air dry more often then blow drying. That goes as well for flatirons, curling irons, or other heated hair appliances. Do this at least once a week.

  3. Step 3

Gently towel dry your hair when you get out of the shower or bath. Do not dry your hair by rubbing but rather by blotting.

  4. Step 4

when you have colored, permed or any other chemically processed hair, make sure you use the right products for it. The products will hep repair any damage to your hair before it turns into split ends as much as possible.

  5. Step 5

Never use plain old rubber bands to put up your hair. These damage your hair and even rip it out. Choose the ones that specify no damage to your hair.

  6. Step 6

Of course you have to pay attention to what you eat. Your diet has a lot to do with the way you look on the outside not just the inside. So eat healthy and it will pay off.

  7. Step 7

Trim your hair every six to eight weeks. This is the only way to get rid of split ends for good and keep them gone.
