How to Create a Productivity Plan Using Employee Time Tracking
Businesses can use employee time tracking to determine where there is inefficiency in the office. This information can then be used to create a plan for increasing productivity in the office. This results in a happier work environment as well as better profits for the business.
Things You'll Need
- Employee time tracking software.
- Team of people.
- 2-3 months to create and implement plan.
Instructions
-
-
1
Purchase employee time tracking software. Install on employee computers according to the instructions that come with the software.
-
2
Track employee productivity for approximately one month. This should give you a good idea of how each employee spends his or her time.
-
-
3
Select those employees who are already making productive use of their time to be team productivity leaders.
-
4
Identify how each of the other employees is wasting time. Common causes of wasted time include being online too much, working overtime instead of getting things done during working hours and spending too much time chatting with co-workers. Divide employees into teams based on the causes of their wasted time.
-
5
Assign one of the new productivity leaders to head each team. These people will now be in charge of managing the group's time. Each team will have a goal based on the information gleaned above (ie, the goal may be to improve usage of office time to reduce overtime); it is the responsibility of the team leader to implement a plan and oversee it in order to meet this goal.
-
6
Continue to use employee time tracking software to make sure that these new goals are met. Review this information in 1-2 months to check on the status of the plan as it is being implemented.

Tips & Warnings
There are many different types of employee time tracking software to choose from. Make sure to select one that will provide you with a variety of information including the amount of time spent on different types of online activities, the amount of idle time there is and the amount of overtime being used.
Employees may resent having their time tracked. A group meeting in which they provide input as to how to make better use of time can go a long way towards reducing those feelings of resentment.
