Hanging border in a room can give it a completely different look and feel. Putting up border is one home improvement you can do for yourself.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ladder, cutting utensil, straight edge and a container of water large enough for dipping the border to moisten the paste.
  1. Step 1

Decide how much border you want to put up (for example, one strip of border along each wall, two strips of border along each wall, etc.) and measure the walls in the room.

  2. Step 2

Buy enough border, plus a yard extra in case you have to match the pattern together at some point.

  3. Step 3

Thoroughly clean the area where you intend to hang the border. Make sure it is dust free so the paste will stick to the walls

  4. Step 4

Gather your equipment: Ladder, cutting utensil, straight edge and a container of water.

  5. Step 5

It is easiest to hang the border in 4 ft. sections so you can reach easily to smooth and straighten it after it is on the wall. Measure a 4 ft. section of border and cut it straight across using the straight edge.

  6. Step 6

Moisten the paste on the border by dipping the pasted side into the water and place it straight across the section of wall you are covering, smoothing and straightening the wet border as necessary. Smooth the hung border with a wet cloth and wash off any paste that may have run down the wall.

  7. Step 7

Repeat steps 1-6, until you have hung the border all the way around the room, being careful to match the pattern when you hang each piece of the border.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be careful when climbing up and down the ladder with the wet border and when smoothing border from the top of the ladder.
