Step 1
When to Start?
You can begin taking light walks about a week after given birth.
If you exercised during your pregnancy, it will make it easier to
continue to exercise postpartum. Don't push yourself. It important
to start slow and take your time. Just try to get moving and get out
the house. Try to take brief walks each day and try to increase it
to 30 minutes, three times a week. This is a great way for you
and your baby to get out of the house and develop an exercise routine.
Wait about 3 months before doing any type of strenuous exercise.
You will eventually want to incorporate both strength training and
cardiovascular exercises into your routine but wait until you feel
you have the adequate energy and you have checked with doctor. -
Step 2
Watch your Diet
You are no longer eating for two! You need to focus on eating
enough calories without the unnecessary fats.
Eat for nutrition. Stick with lean meats like turkey, chicken and
fish. Choose whole grain breads and cereals. Eat breakfast!
Studies have shown that eating breakfast helps you lose weight!
Try some scrambled eggs, whole grain toast and some berries.
Use only low fat dairy products in moderation.
Eat fiber rich foods and keep healthy snacks around so you
won't be tempted to eat junk. -
Step 3
Healthy Snacks
Choose filling snacks like almonds.
You can also try the 100 calorie Snack Packs
by Snackwells. Fruits like apples and oranges
are also good. Avoid snacks that are high in sodium. -
Step 4
Breastfeeding
Since breastfeeding burns calories, (up to 500 a day!)
you are helping to fire-up your metabolism by doing
what comes naturally.
Just be sure to get adequate levels of nutrition
in your diet. Be sure to talk with your doctor. -
Step 5
Try Yoga and Pilates
Both of these exercises forms offer targeted exercises
to help the abdominal region. -
Step 6
Exercise while You Shop
Try parking a little further away from the store to allow
for some extra walking time. Spend a little more time
walking around the store. At WallMart, this is an easy
thing to do! -
Step 7
Drink Plenty of Water
Be sure to drink plenty of water.
Limit sodas and other caffeinated drinks.
