You're typing out a document using Microsoft Word and you're using the Tracked Changes feature. Then you realize you want to copy a portion of the text--with the tracking and comments--onto another document. How can you do it without losing the tracking?

If you're using Microsoft Word's tracked changes feature and you need to copy the text--tracking and all--onto another document, follow these simple instructions. This method will allow you to copy all the tracking and comments into your new document.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open up the document that you want to copy, and then open up a blank document where you want to copy the text.

  2. Step 2

Turn OFF the tracking in both documents--the document with the text and the new document. You can turn off the tracking by going to your tools menu and clicking on "Tracked Changes."

  3. Step 3

Highlight the text that you want to copy, right-click on your mouse, then select "copy."

  4. Step 4

Move your cursor to the new document where you want to paste the text, right-click on your mouse, then select "paste." All of your highlighted text, along with the tracking and comments, should automatically be pasted onto your new document.

  5. Step 5

Don't forget to save your new file!
