How to Display a Marble Collection

For many of us those "lost marbles" soon become a collection. My fascination with marbles started when I was but a child and found a fascination with the round orbs of glass that glittered when held in the sunlight streaming through the windows. It seemed so cruel to shoot them across the room to shatter other innocent orbs of glass.

Things You'll Need:

• Collection of pretty vases
• Display boxes
• Pottery or bowls

1. Leaving your marbles in a drawstring bag is no way to display them. No one will ever see them there. I had to come up with some creative ideas to display them.
   
   I located a few fancy glass bowls one finds at an import shop. My marble collection graced a shiny glass bowl and resided on my desk in a very prominent spot.

2. Naturally, my collection continues to grow. I place my new marbles in the bowl but eventually the collection outgrows the bowl.
   
   I found a few vases and proceeded to fill them with marbles. They look very elegant in my living room and take up even less space. The bonus is that I can actually fill them with water and display some flowers in them.

3. I was recently in a store and saw a display box filled with marbles. Another idea emerged and the shadowbox marble display was developed. I simply loaded a shadowbox with marbles and sealed it shut according to the directions. The marbles promptly formed their own design and another idea was born.

4. An old flower pot with a potted plant is another idea for displaying your marble collection. Simply place on the top of the soil and water through them. A nice sparkly addition to any plant.

Tips & Warnings

• Kids often begin a marble collection in childhood help them to find interesting ways to display those that they aren't playing with.
• Collecting marbles can become addicting.

on 10/24/2009 Great ideas on displaying a marble collection. I have mine from childhood, and they are still in the bag my mother made for them. A small shadowbox to hold my marbles and the bag would make a nice addition to my office. Thanks for the idea. 5*
