Things You'll Need:

  • Patience
  • A trusted Doctor
  • A trusted Pharmacist
  1. Step 1

One way to stock up on medicine is to use less of it each time and save what you don't use. Of course, do NOT do this with medicines you absolutely need to take daily. But many medicines which improve the quality of our life, like allergy medicines, can be occasionally skipped and the medicine saved.

  2. Step 2

Talk to your doctor. Often a doctor will write out a prescription for you for spare medicine. This is common for people going on a vacation and they may treat it as such.

  3. Step 3

Talk to your pharmacist. There may be Over The Counter medicine that you can purchase without a prescription that is equivalent. You can store these for emergencies.

  4. Step 4

Investigate herbal and natural remedies. There may be additional treatments from commonly available items that you can easily stock up on.

  5. Step 5

If you are prescribed medicine for an illness or injury and you do not use all of it - save it if you can. Be sure to store in a safe and secure place, and only use them if you understand how. These would be for extreme emergencies such as the collapse of healthcare as we know it, or a severe natural disaster. You may want to take some First Aid and Nursing courses to gain additional skills.
