If you're on a gluten free diet, it can be hard to find great quality gluten free foods. Many stores have small sections in the corner that offer gluten free items, but then they taste like cardboard when you get them home. Plus, gluten free items can be expensive. Here's how to find good gluten free foods...

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Try Stores that Cater to Special Diets.

Whole Foods, and other natural food stores might be a good place to start with when you're trying to find gluten free items. Krogers has a pretty good section of gluten free items. Wherever you shop, do some research online first, and try some items that receive 5 star reviews. Amazon.com sells a huge variety of gluten free foods. They all have ratings and explanations, so you can see who likes what.

  2. Step 2

Once you have tried a 5 star review food from your local grocer, decide if you really liked it. If not, try another brand. Once you find something you'd like to keep in your pantry, go to Amazon and purchase it in bulk at a discount price! Gluten free can be expensive, and Amazon has good prices when purchased in packs of 3, 6 or 12, as well as other options.

  3. Step 3

Don't forget naturally gluten free foods.

You don't have to always shop in the gluten free section. Rice Chex, Cream of Rice, as well as many other products are gluten free. Read the labels. Whole foods like veggies, meat, fruits and dairy should be the bulk of your purchases. Add gluten free grains and several specialty items, like gluten free pastas, cookies, cake mixes, bread mixes, or brownies, and you can be happily gluten free without going broke!

Tips & Warnings
  • Order gluten free items online through Amazon or other companies after you've tried them. Keep your pantry stocked with things like pastas, flours, baking mixes, bread mixes, and you won't feel deprived.
  • Check every label.

on 7/25/2009 We shop at Wegmans. They have an isle devoted to gluten free foods. It really makes it easy for me! I will tell you though that I totally agree with step 3!! If you look, you'll find products that are listed as gluten free and are what you normally eat. I lived off of Rice Chex for breakfast and snacks for months!!! They never bothered my stomach! Great article!
