How to Make a Necklace Out of Seed Beads

Making a necklace out of seed beads is a simple and attractive project for jewelry makers of all ages and experience levels. Seed beads are small plastic or glass beads that are uniform in size and come in a variety of colors. They have very small holes so a special beading needle, available at bead stores, is required to string the beads. The beads range in size from 1 mm to several mm. You can mix the sizes and colors to make an attractive and simple necklace.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut three lengths of beading thread, one 18 inches, the second 20 inches and the third 22 inches.

    • 2

Tie one end of the 18-inch thread to the bottom loop on one half of the multistrand clasp. You can buy the clasps at beading and craft stores.

    • 3

Thread the other end of the string through your beading needle. Thread beads onto the string until you have a 2 inch tail left on your thread.

    • 4

Tie the end of the thread to the bottom hole on the other end of the necklace clasp and trim off the loose ends.

    • 5

Repeat the process with the 20 inch length of thread, tying it to the center hole. Repeat a third time with the 22 inch strand using the top hole in your clasp.

    • 6

Dab glue lightly on each of your knots to secure the thread to the clasps.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a beading mat to help keep your beads from becoming lost.
