How to Get Better Deals at Hotels
Traveling can be a costly adventure if you don't do your homework and know your options ahead of time. When looking to reserve a hotel room, there are several things to consider in an effort to obtain the best deal possible. Even if you have forgotten, or were unable, to reserve a room at a hotel, you are able to possibly get a deal by walking in.

1
Visit online discount web sites. Sites such as Hotels.com, Expedia.com and Priceline.com all have negotiated discount rates with partnering hotels. Do your homework and visit each site to see who may have the best deal. Log your results.

Travel during off-peak season whenever possible. Even by just postponing your trip by one week, you might be able to save up to half the price of the hotel room. If you are online reserving a room, you can choose different dates to analyze the rates schedule. If you are on the telephone, simply ask the clerk then the rates go down.

Call the hotel directly and ask them for the best possible rate. Depending on the hotel, they may be willing to negotiate. Ask if the hotel offers AAA discounts, senior discounts or a negotiated corporate rate with your company. Many hotel chains have discounted rates with hundreds of companies around the world.

If you are walking in without a reservation, ask the price of the room. Ask if that is the best they can do. If they are unwilling to come down in price, you might want to consider another hotel. If they see you leaving, they may offer to reduce their rate in an effort to sell you the room. Remember, a vacant room brings in zero dollars, so even at a discount the hotel would benefit more than if you walk away.

Join hotel rewards programs. Many large hotel chains such as Holiday Inn and Hilton Hotels offer a reward program. By earning points, you can earn free stays at a hotel. If you are a frequent traveler, this is the way to go.
