How to Create Blog Traffic

A blog is a great way to express your ideas to the world and share advice with people you would otherwise never meet in real life. A blog can also be a great way to make money through ads or by advertising your own products. To get readers and make money from your blog, however, you need lots of traffic. Here are a few simple tips for increasing the traffic to your blog.

1. Post your best articles during the day of the week your blog receives the most traffic. Monitor your blog to see which day it gets the most hits and save your best updates for that day. More people will read and link their friends, creating more traffic.

2. Search keywords that relate to your blog. (A good keyword search tool is located in Resources below.) Find a phrase that has hits in the hundreds, not the thousands. While you may think a keyword or phrase with thousands of hits means it's better, it actually means lots of sites use those words and your site has a lower chance of making it onto one of the first pages when someone searches those keywords. Choose keywords that stay under the thousand-hit mark and you'll rank higher on search engines.

3. Edit articles several times to make sure there are no errors. People will not come back if they see errors in your posts, and it will lower your credibility in their minds.

4. Keep the title of your blog short. It will display the entire thing in searches, and will generate more hits from search engines.

5. Talk about things the reader can do themselves. An informative or a how-to blog will generate more views than a blog about your personal life.

6. Answer any comments or messages you receive from readers. This will encourage them to come back, especially if they have to view your blog to see the answer to a particular comment they left.
