How to Create an Acrylic Scrapbook Album

Creating an acrylic scrapbook album provides an artistic showcase in which to display treasured family photos. Acrylic sheets are transparent and used as the front and back covers of the scrapbook album. Thick and large embellishments can be placed on the acrylic covers for added interest. The colorful paper inside the album shows through the covers, adding depth and increasing the opportunity for adding personalized decorations and mementos to the scrapbook.

Instructions

  1. How to Make Acrylic Scrapbook Albums

    • 1

Lay the acrylic sheet so the 10-inch section is the left side of the album. Measure one-half inch from the top and side of the sheet and mark. Measure two inches beneath the first hole and mark that spot. Measure two inches beneath the second hole and mark, so three holes are marked. Repeat for the second acrylic sheet.

    • 2

Drill holes at the spots you've marked. Remember to put on protective eyewear first.

    • 3

Sand the edges of all of the holes with sandpaper to smooth away any rough spots.

    • 4

Slip binder rings through the holes of one acrylic sheet, add the scrapbook sheets, then the acrylic back cover, and close the rings.

    • 5

Decorate the acrylic covers and interior pages with any chosen embellishments as desired using non-acetate photo adhesive.

Tips & Warnings

  • The fit of the binder rings through the holes should be relatively snug. They should be loose enough to allow opening with ease, but not so loose that the album is difficult to hold while viewing pages. If the acrylic cover is too loose, the pages will tend to hang above or below the cover, and look messy and become damaged after repeated opening.

  • Follow all power tool safety instructions provided in the operation booklet for the chosen tool. Wear safety goggles or eyewear designed for use with power tools, as chips from the acrylic sheets can fly into the air when drilled. Prescription eye glasses or common sunglasses are not considered protective eyewear. The drilling aspect of this project is designed to be completed by adults; children in the area of the drilling should be supervised, and stand at least 4 feet away while the drill is in use.
