Bronchitis is the inflammation of air passages inside the lungs. Although bronchitis is generally cured with a round of prescription antibiotics, antibiotics are not recommended as a treatment option during pregnancy. Luckily, there are a few alternative ways to treat bronchitis when you are pregnant.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consult your doctor. He or she may recommend alternative treatment.

  2. Step 2

When your chest feels tight, try steam. Fill the sink with very hot water and place three chamomile teabags in the water. Cover your head with a towel to capture the steam, and place your head directly over the hot water. Breathe deeply until your chest feels clear. Repeat as often as necessary.

  3. Step 3

Take Antimonium Tartaricum 30x, which can be found at your local health food store. This is a homeopathic bronchitis treatment that is safe for pregnant women.

  4. Step 4

Purchase an over-the-counter vapor rub. Rub it on your chest and neck before bed. This will help keep you from coughing. Prop your head up with several pillows while sleeping to prevent fluid buildup in the lungs.

  5. Step 5

Monitor your symptoms. If you experience a high fever, wheezing or blood in your mucus, go to the doctor or the emergency room immediately.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a humidifier to stay healthy during the winter months.
  • Do not use this regimen without first speaking to a doctor.
