How to Play Piano on the Computer
If you are a piano player or would love to learn the basics of playing the piano, you don't necessarily have to have a piano in your house to practice at home. There are virtual pianos available for download onto your computer that make it possible to play the piano using your keyboard or your mouse.

1
Download free piano software. Virtual Piano or Pianoeasy work on any type of computer (see Resources). GarageBand for Macs has its own virtual piano. It's possible that your Mac computer came with GarageBand preinstalled.

2
Install the piano program onto your computer and open the program. When you open Virtual Piano or Pianoeasy, the keyboard comes up automatically. In GarageBand, you can get to the piano feature by clicking on "Keyboard" under the "Window" menu.

Play with your computer keyboard. Different letters on your computer keyboard will correspond with keys on the virtual keyboard. Once you determine which letters correspond with which piano key, you will be able to play the virtual piano in a similar manner to an actual piano.

4
Play with your computer mouse. You may find that it is simpler to play each key individually with your computer mouse. Just left-click on each piano key to play each note.
