BitTorrent is a protocol for exchanging files across the globe

BitTorrent is a popular peer-to-peer file-sharing protocol that enables files to be shared across the Internet. Torrent files are the small files that contain information about a particular file that is to be downloaded with a BitTorrent client. As many people begin to download the file, they also begin sharing pieces of the files. Downloading multiple torrent files at once can be an easy task using your BitTorrent client.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open up your BitTorrent client. In this example, you'll be using the uTorrent client (see Resources), but most other free clients should have similar features.

  2. Step 2

Go to "Options" and "Preferences" in uTorrent.

  3. Step 3

Click on "Queueing" on the left side of the Preferences dialog box.

  4. Step 4

Enter the numbers for the maximum number of active torrents (upload or download) and the maximum number of active downloads that you want. Click "OK."

  5. Step 5

Locate or download your desired torrent files. Either double-click the files one at a time or select all of them (hold the control key and click each one). Right-click "Open With" and select "uTorrent."

Tips & Warnings
  • As long as the number of files you open in uTorrent is equal to or less than the maximum values you set, you can open as many as you wish simultaneously.
  • The use of torrent files is legal; however, the downloading and exchanging of copyrighted material is prohibited by U.S. copyright laws (see References).
