How to Burn WMA Files to a CD

A common way of entertaining yourself is to listen to your favorite audio files. One of the most popular ways of doing this is to use Windows Media Player on a computer system. Creating personal playlists to easily identify your favorite artists is also a useful function. Occasionally, you may want to transfer these Windows Media Player files from your computer to a portable CD. With a few tips, you'll learn how to burn Windows Media Player files to a CD.

Things You'll Need:

• Blank CD-R
• Blank CD-RW

1. Launch Windows Media Player on your current computer system. View the menu items listed at the top of the application. Some of the available options include "Now Playing," "Library" and "Burn." Pick the "Burn" link to begin the process of transferring files to a CD.

2. Click the "Burn" arrow to view additional functions within Windows Media Player. From the displayed list, make sure that the "Audio" choice has been selected. On the left side of the application, there will be a section labeled "Burn List." You'll be able to place WMA files stored in your Library into this area.

3. Highlight the chosen file, and hold down your mouse in order to drag it into "Burn List." Add various songs to your new list until you've reached the maximum amount allowed. If you've added a file mistakenly, just click onto it and press "Delete" on your keyboard to get rid of it.

4. Insert a blank CD-RW or CD-R into the CD drive of your computer system. A pop-up window will appear prompting you to pick an option. Choose the "Burn an Audio CD" function to continue burning WMA files. You'll be able to automatically do this each time you insert a blank disc by clicking that function. Monitor the amount of space you have left by viewing the status at the top of Windows Media Player.

5. Press "Start Burn," located at the bottom of Windows Media Player. Check the current status of your files as they are being burned to your blank CD. Each file will be inspected and may take a few minutes to process before the burning begins.

6. View the entire burning process in Windows Media Player via the status bar. After a short time, the WMA files will be successfully copied to the inserted CD. When finished, the CD will automatically pop out of the CD drive.

Tips & Warnings

• Use a CD-RW disc for frequently adding and removing WMA files. You'll have the chance to play the newly burned CD on multiple computers or compatible audio devices.
