Ripping a CD to an iPod requires using a software "ripper" to extract tracks from the audio CD and then convert them into a digital music file. Once the audio tracks have been converted, they need to be transferred to the iPod. Ripping a CD to an iPod can be done by using the iTunes software package.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open the iTunes software on your computer. Double-click the icon on the computer's desktop to start the program.

  2. Step 2

Connect the iPod to the computer with the connector cable. Plug the interface into the iPod and the end with the USB connector into the computer. The iTunes software should then recognize that the owner's iPod has been connected as a device.

  3. Step 3

Insert an audio CD into the disk drive. The iTunes software should recognize the disk and ask if you would like to import the disk into the Music Library.

  4. Step 4

Select "Yes" to import the disk into the Music Library. The tracks on the disk will be extracted and converted into the aac music format used by iTunes.

  5. Step 5

Use the "Sync" or "Autofill" options to transfer the song tracks onto the iPod. The tracks, along with any album cover artwork, will be transferred to the iPod. It should take a few minutes to complete the transfer.

Tips & Warnings
  • A CD that has been converted into MP3 files can also be added to the Music Library and then transferred to an iPod.
  • Do not disconnect the iPod until iTunes indicates it is safe to do so.
