How to Install a Timbuk2 Bag Strap

Timbuk2 is a bag manufacturer that was originally founded in 1989. Timbuk2 is known for its custom messenger bags and backpacks. Most Timbuk2 products allow you to change certain characteristics and accessories, such as the bag strap. Learn how to install and replace a Timbuk2 bag strap if your old one is broken or if you want to try a new style and color. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the old Timbuk2 strap. If it is Velcro, find the free end of the Velcro strap that loops around onto itself. Pull this looped end of the strap away from the Velcro so that the bag's loop can be detached.

    • 2

Locate the metal snaps on the strap if the Timbuk2 strap uses a metal snap to secure itself. Pull the snaps apart to unsnap the enclosure and free the loop, then slide the strap through the bag's loophole to remove the entire strip of material.

    • 3

Install the new Timbuk2 bag strap. Slide each end of the new strap through the bag's loopholes. Secure each end by wrapping the strap around onto itself. If it is Velcro, press down to secure it. If the strap uses metal snaps, press each snap firmly to lock it into place.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can obtain a Timbuk2 replacement strap directly from the bag manufacturer. Like the actual bags, the strap can be customized with a variety of fabric types and color styles. Select a replacement strap that looks like the old strap you're replacing, or create a new custom strap. Always first determine whether your Timbuk2 bag is a compatible bag model that allows you to replace the bag strap. Timbuk2 bags with removable straps include all bags that use Velcro or a metal snap enclosure to secure the strap to the sides of the bag. Consider installing a padded sheath to the bag strap. The Timbuk2 company sells extra padding that adds an additional layer of material where the bag strap comes in contact with your body. This may make the bag more comfortable.

  • Velcro straps may cease to work properly over a period of time.
