Making doll hair from mohair may well be one of the easiest things I ever learned to do as a child. My grandmother loved to make us homemade dolls and she would always use some kind of mohair. Homemade dolls happen to be one of those precious things that you can pass down through the generations. Craft your own doll and give her a breathtaking coif that will span the ages.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mohair (1 bunch)
  • Soft hair brush
  • Hair dye (your preference)
  • Plastic comb
  • Scissors
  • Super glue
  1. Step 1

Hold the mohair between your index and middle fingers and drape it over the rest of your hand.

  2. Step 2

Use a soft hair brush to brush the mohair straight. This conditions the mohair and prepares it for the hair dye.

  3. Step 3

Pour the dye into a ceramic bowl or metal pot. Gently place the mohair into the receptacle. Put on the plastic gloves that come with the hair dye kit and use your hands to work the hair dye into the mohair. Let it set for 10 minutes, then remove the mohair and place on a glass or ceramic plate to dry. It could take from 1 to 3 hours to dry.

  4. Step 4

Use a plastic comb to untangle the mohair, then bush with a soft brush to give it some volume.

  5. Step 5

Use the scissors to cut or style the hair as desired.

  6. Step 6

Glue the hair to your doll using a thin bead of Super Glue down the center of the doll's head (or wherever you want the "hair part" to be). Super Glue dries clear and will hold up to repeated hair brushing.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be careful when cutting with scissors.
