How to Build a Patio Trellis
A trellis is a support that climbing flowers and vines can use to grow vertically. Trellises can be employed to great effect in your gardening by adding vertical interest in flowerbeds. In a patio setting, a trellis filled with morning glories or moonflowers can create a beautiful border to define an outdoor room. Building a trellis may seem intimidating, but it doesn't have to be. Things You'll Need
- Tape measure
- Kitchen flour
- 2 fencing T-posts
- Post driver
- Garden twine
- Morning glory seeds

Measure the space for your garden trellis and mark the spot for your trellis supports by pouring a handful of kitchen flour on the ground.

Drive the trellis supports (T-posts) into the ground using the post driver.

Wind garden twine parallel to the ground between the two posts.

Create vertical support by weaving twine perpendicular to the ground, through the parallel twine.

Plant morning glory seeds under the trellis. When these sprout, they will cover the twine and posts, hiding the appearance of the trellis.

Tips & Warnings
Although you could mark the location for your posts with spray paint, kitchen flour is more environmentally friendly.
This style of trellis is not designed to hold heavy plants such as roses or wisteria.
