Instructions

    • 1

Place an end of the paper towel tube over the opening of the water bottle. Draw around the bottle at the edge of the cardboard tube using a permanent marker. Remove the tube. Cut the top of the water bottle on the marking with a craft knife. This is your trumpet mouthpiece.

    • 2

Fit the cut edge of the water bottle into an end of the cardboard tube and tape the seam with clear packing tape.

    • 3

Lay a dinner plate on the poster board. Draw around it and cut out. Mark the center of the circle. Draw a line from the edge of the circle to the center mark with a ruler. Cut a slit along the line. Stand the paper towel tube over the center of the cardboard circle and draw around it. Cut out the circle.

    • 4

Overlap the cut slit on the poster board circle to form a cone shape. Tape the seam to hold its cone shape using clear packing tape. Fit the middle of the cone into the open end of the cardboard tube. Tape it to the tube. This is your basic cardboard trumpet shape.

    • 5

Pull off a 12-inch section of foil. Wad the foil into a loose ball and unwrap it carefully. The wrinkles will allow you to better manipulate the foil. Wrap the foil around the cardboard tube of the trumpet and just below the threads on the mouthpiece. Scrunch and spread the foil until these areas are completely covered. Cut away any excess. Apply three dots of glue an inch apart on one long side of the tube. Place a flat button over each dot of glue and allow it to dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • Purse your lips and place them into the mouthpiece (not over it). Blow while humming slightly.
