Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Butterfly nets
  • Baby items such as socks, bibs, onesies and bottles
  • Silk butterflies
  • Pastel fabrics
  • Fabric glue
  • Cookie cutters
  • Stencils
  • Cardstock
  • Fabric tape
  • Tulle
  • Scissors
  • Lanterns
  • Paint and paint brushes
  • Terra cotta pots
  • Fresh flowers
  • Confetti
  • Butterfly fans
  • Live butterflies
  1. Step 1

Fill butterfly nets. Hang butterfly nets from the ceiling or from trees for baby shower decorations. Fill the butterfly nets with baby items such as socks, bibs, onesies and bottles. Add a few silk butterflies on the outside of the nets. Give the goodies inside the nets to the expectant mom as your baby shower gift.

  2. Step 2

Design layered table coverings. Follow the light, springy look of the butterfly theme with table coverings. Purchase various colors of pastel fabric from the store such as pink and purple for girls or blue and green for boys. Hem the edges or use fabric glue to create a straight edge. Use silk butterflies or trace and cut-out butterflies from colored cardstock. Use fabric tape to hold the butterflies in place. Cover the tables with tulle and drape to the ground or cut down the center after it covers the table's edge. Gather each piece to the side closest and tie a knot or bow at the bottom.

  3. Step 3

Plan dramatic lighting. This decoration works best for evening and outdoor parties. Purchase white lanterns and paint butterfly designs on the lantern using a stencil or cookie cutter. String the lanterns from the trees or plants. Use table size lanterns as a centerpiece or decoration on the gift or snack table.

  4. Step 4

Create a centerpiece and table decorations. Paint terra cotta pots with butterfly designs. Plant flowers in the pots. Sprinkle butterfly and baby confetti on the tables. For outside baby showers, make butterfly fans. Select clip-art images and print them on cardstock. Cut the designs and glue to a craft stick. Place a fan at each place setting or poking out of the flowers. Consider writing the baby's name or the due date on the craft stick.

  5. Step 5

Add extra touches. Purchase nylon or silk butterflies and hang from the trees or in decorative locations. Consider tracing and making butterfly wings to place on the chair backs. Think about releasing live butterflies during the baby shower, especially if the event is in a garden setting or on a patio. Butterflies flutter around for awhile, adding a nice decoration to the party.
