Low Carb Snacks

A low carb diet is a great way to lose weight. However, there are times when you have an urge for a low carb snack or leave too much time in between meals. When that happens, it's good to have a selection of low carb snacks ready for those occasions. In order for the diet to work, it is very important for participants to stick with foods that are low in carbohydrates, even if it's just a snack.

Instructions

    • 1

Find out how many carbs you can have per snack.

Depending on the low carb diet you're on, the amount of carbs acceptable could be 50g or less than 15g. Either way, you need to set a limit.

    • 2

Buy a wide selection of near-zero carb snacks. These tend to be from the meat group. Do not put sugar based seasonings on them, or these low carb snacks aren't low carb anymore. Some examples include:

      eggs
      beef jerky
      deli meat
      pork rinds

These snacks are ideal for ultra low carb diet programs.

    • 3

Buy some snacks with some carbs that are still low carb if your diet program allows. Some examples include:

      Celery
      Berries
      Pickles
      Nuts
      Seeds
      Cottage cheese
      Regular cheese
      Veggies with dip
      Low carb bars and shakes

For these snacks, watch out for the amount of dip you use. If you use too much dip, your low carb snack ceases to be a low carb snack. It doesn't take much dip to ruin a low carb diet. Ranch dip tends to be a lower carb dip than other dips, but only in strict moderation.

    • 4

Avoid high carb snacks, which tend to be processed foods and starchy products. Some examples of snacks not to get include:

      candy bars
      popcorn
      full sugar jello
      cake
      cookies
      bread, rolls, and biscuits
      potato chips

You can't eat a small handful of any of these snacks. They have lots of carbohydrates, even in small one ounce servings. Stay away from high carb snacks.
