Things You'll Need:
- Good manners and a warm attitude.
-
Step 1
First things first...
Try to put your self into the other person's shoes. If you are a customer somewhere try and imagine what it would be like to have a non-stop line of people fighting for your attention, some of which where probably not very friendly. Try and thing about what you would want if you where in that person's position.
If you are helping customers, at a store for example. Try to remember all the times that you have been a customer. Try to recall all the times when you would have loved for someone to ask you if you need help, and really mean it, not force the question out like it was a bother for you to be there.
Once you have a basic concept of what it would be like to be the other person you are ready to proceed. -
Step 2
This is the most simple of all the thing that you can do...
It can be summed up with just one word... Smile...
A smile is a great way to open up any type of interaction. I smile can instantly rip down any walls and barriers that have been built up. The smile has to be real, not a fake plastic smile that you put on when you think someone important is watching, but a real, honest and warm smile. This one step will save you a lot of stress in the long run. -
Step 3
This step can sometimes be very difficult, but it is well worth the trouble...
Be understanding and patient...
I know that we are all rushing around trying to accomplish the thing that we need to in our day today lives. The thing that seems to be thrown out the window first when we get in a rush though is our understanding and patience. If we just slowed ourselves down for a moment and took the time to be understanding with the people that we are interacting we would automatically win. If we are being patient and understanding we are not going to put the other person of the defensive and they will be more open to helping us with what ever problem that we may have. -
Step 4
The last little thing that you can do is be polite. Use your manners when dealing with people. Say please and thank you. This will make your dealing with almost every body a lot easier.
