Do you have your heart set on a particular college? Follow these steps to ensure that your college application makes the best impression possible. Think of it as a job application. Stand out among the other applicants and knock their socks off.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • extra-curricular activities
  • at least 2 years of a foreign language
  • well-written essay
  • leadership experience
  • letters of recommendation
  • SAT or ACT exam scores
  • high school grade transcripts
  1. Step 1

Obtain a college application by contacting the college or printing it from the website. Complete the application neatly, making sure to fill in all of the information that is requested.

  2. Step 2

When completing your college application, include any and all activities, clubs, sports, jobs, or leadership positions you've held. Colleges want to see that you are well-rounded as well as having good grades.

  3. Step 3

If asked to write an essay for your application, be sure to show how your experience and achievements will benefit the college if you are accepted. Ensure that your essay flows logically and that it is free of any grammatical or spelling errors.

  4. Step 4

Obtain letters of recommendation from teachers, troop leaders, club leaders, music teachers/conductors or from supervisors. Many colleges will require at least three letters.

  5. Step 5

Arrange for official SAT or ACT exam scores to be sent to the college(s) you are applying to. Also, an official copy of your high school transcript will be required.

on 5/28/2009 Thanks, 63miranda. Just what I needed...here I am trying to reach my current goal of 500 eHow articles. I have been writing for over a year and need 25 more articles. Now, how exactly can I get that done if you are going to distract me with interesting articles like this one? As a father with 3 small kids I need to print this one and save it. Thanks for the distraction.
