Get a Professional Passport Photo for Your Infant

This article is loaded with tips for taking your infant to a professional passport photo-taking location. See my other article for tips and instructions to take your own photo.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Awake, alert baby
  • Patient photographer
  • Entertainers
  1. Step 1

If you decide there's simply no way you can take your own passport picture for your little one, go ahead and take him to a professional. However, there are a few things you should know before you shell out your hard-earned cash.

  2. Step 2

Call around to some different places to see which actually take infant passport pictures. You might be more likely to find these types of photographers at professional studios as opposed to your local post office or drug store.

  3. Step 3
You can crop this picture so only the baby's head is visible.

Pick a time that's not very busy. An idle photographer is more likely to be a patient photographer, and there will be less distractions for your baby.

  4. Step 4

Bring a white sheet, towel, or piece of plastic or cardboard with you. Place your child on it lying down if possible. If not, prop him up in front of it. Dress your child in dark colors for the maximum amount of contrast.

  5. Step 5

Have your entertainer stand right near the camera and get the baby's attention. The baby must be looking directly into the camera for the picture to be valid.

  6. Step 6

Ask photographer to take as many pictures as possible. The more choices you have, the better your odds that you'll get an acceptable one.

Tips & Warnings
  • Order extra pictures in case the passport gets lost. DO NOT store them with the passport!
  • The baby's entire head and both ears must be visible for the picture to be accepted.
  • No other people or objects can be in the picture - no hands holding up the baby, no pacifiers, etc.
