A producer has to put together all the elements of a fashion show, including the opening display.

A fashion show producer has to juggle several elements and make them all work at once. The producer has to know how to run the business, which includes promoting shows and booking models, and how to stage presentations. It's also a merit-based business as you must earn a reputation as a good fashion mind to get a shot.

Instructions

    • 1

Become a student of the fashion show game. A fashion show producer must have an eye for fashion and a working knowledge of critically-acclaimed designer names and what makes them distinctive.

    • 2

Take business and fashion courses. The business courses will help you handle the unglamorous side of the job. There are no degrees in fashion production, but studying fashion design can only help you produce shows. There are some large fashion-based schools in New York, Paris and some other big cities, but some universities and colleges also offer courses in fashion.

    • 3

Study how famous fashion show producers got their jobs. Most of them were either stylists, models or designers first, and most of them worked their way into those jobs by assisting an established producer. Intern at fashion shows just to get the experience of working behind the scenes and the chance to observe producers at work.

Tips & Warnings

  • No one starts at the top. If you live in an area where a fashion show seems like it might be appealing to the public, try to create your own from the ground up. Develop a budget, hire the models, rent the hall, contract the designers (or develop your own), and put on your own full show. This could be a good way to find out what else you need to learn before pursuing it professionally. If it works, it's another good thing to have on your resume.
