Things You'll Need:
- bins or boxes (diaper boxes work well)
- markers

Step 1
So you have hand-me-downs that you'd like to save for your child to grow into and need a system for storage? Saving an older child's outgrown clothes for a younger sibling? Good for you!! Start by locating several bins or lidded boxes. Diaper boxes, copy paper boxes from work, whatever you have available. Try to find one for each size, season and gender you plan to store. (example, boy's 2T winter, boy's 2T summer, girl's 3T winter, etc)
-
Step 2
Once you've located enough bins or boxes, begin sorting the clothes accordingly. Be careful to check actual size of the garment against the size on the label, as some items may run large or small. If an item doesn't seem the same size as the rest, compare it with others until you've determined its true size and place it in the appropriate box. I recommend saving all items, even those wash- worn or with stains. They will make good play clothes and be useful for messy activities such as painting and crafting.

Step 3
Once the items have been sorted, take a moment to inventory what you have. It doesn't have to be detailed or elaborate, but make a mental note if you see too much of one type of clothing and/or not enough of another. (for example--20 t-shirts but only 2 pairs of shorts)This will help you to know what you need if you happen across a great sale, or get offered hand-me-downs again.

Step 4
Once you've got your boxes sorted, label them clearly in large letters on the side of the box that will face outward in storage. Not only will this help you find the box when you need it, but it will make it easy to quickly locate the proper box when and if you find more clothes that need to be added.
