No need to buy moving boxes from moving companies! There are plenty of free, easy ways to find boxes for the big move!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Vehicle
  1. Step 1

Visit your local liquor store. The liquor store is one of the best sources for boxes--they have a variety of sizes and shapes, and often the boxes have cardboard within them to separate compartments. This makes these boxes great for kitchen items, such as spices or sauces, alcohol (obviously!), and bathroom items.

  2. Step 2

If you are a Costco member, grab some extra boxes the next time you are there. Likewise, any large store, including grocery stores or furniture stores, could be a great source.

  3. Step 3

Ask your neighbors. Many people save boxes, especially if they have a storage shed or big garage. You'll likely be able to snag a few here and there. Maybe they'll even help you carry a few loads to the car once you're packed up!

  4. Step 4

Check out craigslist. Search for "free boxes" or check out their "free" section.

  5. Step 5

Another business you might try that most people don't think of: your local pharmacy. They receive shipments of vials that come in the perfect size box for moving. Usually the boxes just get recycled, so you should be able to have them.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't overlook boxes that have already been broken down. They're easier to transport that way and it's a cinch to put them back together.
  • Don't waste your time with wet or dirty boxes. It's not worth the time to try to repair them or clean them out.
